My tire was punctured while under the supervision of the shop. A plug was applied - the techs/mechanics didn't seem bothered. If this is an indication of their work, I am now very hesitant to return. I will stop referring friends and family to this shop.

When I picked my car up there was a screw in the front driver side tire. I have pictures. I told the shop and the manager confirmed that he would’ve spotted the screw when he was looking over the tire. The mechanics didn’t seem to be bothered. I’m concerned the plug applied is a temporary fix and the tire will need replacing.

Our Driver's side headlamp is still out. So I'm little bummed on that.

I was surprisingly upset after my service on April 30th into May 1st as car is usually left in superb condition. After I picked up the Car on Friday, 5/2/25 I did not get to thoroughly inspect the work. On Saturday, 5/3 I popped the hood and found both AC ports to be missing, a number of plastic shield and fender retainers on the cowl along with at least 2 AC retaining bolts, one snapped off, and leading me to believe it could be missing from the system. I also a fender retaining clip and did locate the missing AC port covers one number against the windshield wiper arm mount and the other loose on the cowl. In addition to this when I tried to start the car after a short drive my battery was drained and I was in need of a jump. Upon trying to Jump the battery I realized the Negative terminal was not properly connected hence the battery being drained after this short trip. Additionally, I found the passenger side wheel trim to not be seated properly and the wheel inner fender trip to joy have it’s plastic fender retainer in place. As I said, I was surprised as typically my vehicle is returned in good condition after service from the shop. This does cause me pause in considering further work. Please let me know where I can send Photos. As of Thursday, 5/8, I have spoken with Jenn and she said that she will be speaking with the lead tech, and asked for me to come in soon to have the tech give a once over to make sure all is in order with the AC system.

very disappointing as compared to my first visit last year. What happened to what used to be your great service?

The price for four tires to be done was very overpriced especially with a generic tire selection.

First issue was in August. A tool was left in my engine. The repair I had paid for was expensive. I had to make two trips one for the repair another to have the tool removed. Second is is I was told my car was ready for pickup. When I went to get it the check engine light was on. I had to spend 25 minutes while the problem was taken care of. The shop is expensive, this level of professionalism is not up to par with the prices charged. Two issue's in two visits is terrible.

The symptom of concern was a P0300 random misfire. I was told on the phone that you had an OBD scanner that could drill down to precise cause. It doesn't seem like you do. I also had an EGR flow CEL, although that was not my concern for this repair. Technician said I needed the entire EGR system replaced, at a cost of over $1,400. This involved extremely expensive components which are much cheaper in the aftermarket, and also included an EGR control valve solenoid which is not used in my particular model of vehicle. My EGR valve is vacuum only, not electric. The labor cost for remove and replace The EGR valve was over $300. I have replaced the EGR valve and solenoid in less than half an hour, myself, so this amount is really unreasonable. Moreover, the components could be tested in less than an hour. I have tested them myself, before. Just put a hand vacuum on the valve and see if the diaphragm moves and holds. Put 12 v. on the solenoid and see if it fires and holds. There was no need to recommend replacement of the entire system. There was no recommendation for cleaning the intake manifold passages, which might be necessary. There are other components, such as the mass air flow and pressure sensors, which might cause an EGR CEL. These were not mentioned. Regardless, the EGR flow problem does not relate to the P0300 code. I had the EGR CEL on for a long time, and the engine was running smoothly anyway. Then the tech wanted to replace a leaking valve cover gasket, at a cost of over $500. I was told that the oil might be leaking into the spark plug seals. There is no relation between a leaking valve cover gasket and leaking spark plug seals. The spark plugs were changed two years ago, which is a short time for this vehicle. It looks like the mechanic did a poor job on the gasket, but the spark plug seals should be ok. If there was a misfire from a leaking seal, the OBD scanner would have shown that specific cylinder as misfiring, not random misfire. Then the tech wrote that even with all this work, there was only a 50% chance it would solve the problem. Would you be ok spending $2,000 on a roll of the dice? In my opinion the P0300 code was possibly due to a slipped tooth on the timing belt after a high (with within spec, 5000 rpm) rev during downshift. I asked for an estimate for the timing belt replacement, and it came in at over $2,500. This is vastly higher than the price at the Mitsubishi dealer. Your tech estimated the cost of the timing belt kit with water pump at nearly $1,000. These parts are available in the aftermarket for a fraction of that price from reputable sources. In any case, the tech said he wouldn't replace the timing belt unless the other work was done. That seems a little unusual to me. Usually, if a customer wants a specific thing done, the garage will do it, and then it's on the customer if that doesn't solve things. Fixing a rough idle at a total cost of potentially over $4,500 total seems high, since a rebuilt engine can be bought and installed cheaper than that. All in all, I was very disappointed. I had previous service done by you (brake-related). Your prices were high but marginally acceptable. For the current repair, I regard your tech's recommendations as unacceptable. You have nice customer service people at the desk, though.

I have done my inspection here two years in a row. The first year was amazing. This year felt very different. Two main things are driving this feeling for me. 1. I felt a bit forgotten during the process. I arrived for my 8a appointment and my car was inspected by 9:30. I was told the brake pads I needed would be installed and finished by 11-11:30. I said I’d happily wait, but did need to leave for work by the afternoon if they thought that would lineup. At 12:40, I checked in at the desk and was told the part hadn’t arrived and now the car would be finished until 2:30. These things happen when relying on vendors I understand completely, but it would have been so helpful to understand the estimate had changed by 3 hours if someone could have called or come up knowing I was there. My car was actually done at 3:30 that day. 2. My inspections with the brake pads ended up costing ~$714. That was ok. I was quoted another ~$850 to align my two front tires which were -1° camber. I understand that small businesses are not immune from inflation and strongly believe your mechanics should be paid top dollar, but this quote felt a few hundred dollars higher than the area’s going rate. Give the cost, I no longer believe I can afford doing typical services with you. I do want to say the cashiers and receptions were continually friendly. They are great reps for your team. Apologies if there are multiple submissions, the link was giving an error message on the first tries.

Never recharged my battery after putting in new alternator. Still have to jump car to get it started because I have not had the time to drive around and allow the battery to charge.

Dear Schafers auto I initially brought my vehicle to Monroe for a tune-up to address a check engine light indicating a cylinder one misfire. When the issue persisted, I was referred to Mr. Tire, where they performed a compression test and determined the motor was beyond repair. Seeking a second opinion, I contacted B&B, who referred me to Schafer’s Auto. Upon inspection, Chris at Schafer’s assured me the motor was in good condition after completing $4,300 worth of repairs. However, the same error code reappeared just days later. After further inspection, I was informed the motor was indeed beyond repair—precisely the issue I had initially sought to address and which should be covered under warranty. When I contacted Assured, the representative stated they had spoken with your team and believed you were replacing $5,000 worth of parts on a motor that was already faulty. This situation has caused significant frustration and financial strain. I would appreciate clarity on how this will be resolved, as the initial misdiagnosis and additional costs could have been avoided. I am seeking a fair resolution to rectify this matter promptly. Sincerely, Lisa kruzinski

It’s very rare you can legitimately give out 5 stars. I’m also not someone who ever does reviews unless it’s really bad service or really good. Schafers was absolute 5 star service. From my initial phone call to see if they could complete this job to getting it done extremely quickly & properly they are nothing short of amazing & friendly! I’ll be back! Thanks guys!
