I just started using Schafers this year after years of being disappointed with other mechanics. Prices are reasonable and they always communicate what is going on. I tend to just drop my car off and come back when it is done. Unless something big is wrong I usually get my car back fast. Today. The day before thanksgiving they got me all fixed up and road ready. I was running a little late but they stuck around for a little bit to make sure I got my car. Good group there.

Made appointment at 9.15AM, I arrived 20 minutes early, by 10.50, over one and half hour after my original appointment time, my car still not even being worked on yet. Very bad customer service, what a waste of couple hours time

Friendly, fast, car knowledgeable staff that have great people skills and mechanics that are reliable. The atmosphere is comfortable and not congested like other shops I've been to. I highly suggest you and anyone else to give them a try.

These guys are super nice to your face but they are literally robbing people blind. $174 for an emissions test!!! That's ridiculous! My battery had become disconnected and they were trying to charge me $1300 for a bunch of things I didn't need so I had it towed out of there to honest people who reconnected my battery and did what I needed and I paid $255. Was really upset how dishonest they were. They really act like every piece on your car should be new CONSTANTLY.

Biggest RIP OFF EVER! Took my truck there and explained to Mike know that my windows and lights needed to be replaced. I explained this very easily and Mike gave me the " yea yea yea OK I got it ". Calls me the next day and tells me $1800 for tires, air filter oil change, and replacing the wires. I tell Mike just to do the wires and he says OK $750. Then he calls me the next day and says he had to call a GM guy in to look at my engine, that's another $175 ( he never even asked me if that was OK, he just took it upon himself to charge me and didn't even call and ask me if it's OK ), and I'm like damn this is bs but OK. Now he calls me 3 days later and says oh your window motor blew, another $400 to fix. So he quotes me $750, after trying to upsell me $1800 and I tell him no, now all of the sudden it's $1400. Your business is a disgrace. No way in holy hell I'd ever bring u ANY business again.

I wish I would have listened to the reviews online. This place is a rip off! Mystery charges abound. They will not only overcharge you but the work they do fails. Then they do not stand behind it. Please do your self a favor and go somewhere else. This place goes by Rubberneck Rims too check the reviews for them too they are also horrible.

I'm very confused by the high reviews at this place because I had a HORRIBLE experience. I made an appointment (since I was told they were required) for an oil change and tire alignment. I was told the service would only take an hour and a half (which I felt was a tad long). I arrived at 11 (because the receptionist said coming early wouldn't be a problem) and my car wasn't touched until 1:15. Why? That is still a mystery to me seeing that there were three others technitians.  Ultimately, this place carried on with a very low sense of urgency, do you want business or not? I had other things to do besides waiting for three hours for an oil change. Won't be back for service. The manager/owner real needs to pay attention to his staff. Ridiculous.

A great shop that watches the bottom line for the customer. I've got a European car with expensive parts. They welded in the minimum OEM exhaust part and saved me hundreds.

This USED TO BE the most honest, best mechanic I had ever been to. Recently it all changed. My family has been using Shafer's as our only mechanic for about 15 years. In the past year we have had too many issues. My parents got new tires. They were told they could only get the premium grade tires, but after some arguing, Shafer's agreed that the mid-grade tires would be just fine. Then my parents were told the tires would be in the next day. They turned out to be the wrong tires, an honest mistake, so my mom had to leave work early for a second time when the right ones came in. After they were installed, the tire had a slow leak. Turns out the stem was broken, and since the tires have been changed, two of the tire pressure sensors have gone and they never had an issue before. My parents have been down there at least five times since then because of issues with the tire sensors/stems, etc. My parents got an oil change at Shafer's. When it came time for their next oil change, they were out of the state, and when the mechanic went under the hood he found that the dipstick was missing to check the oil, meaning that Shafer's had never put it back. I've never heard of a mechanic losing someone's oil dipstick. I realized I had a slow leak in my tire, so I took it to Shafer's as well. I was told that there was a "small pinhole in the sidewall of my tire that could not be repaired." My only option was to buy a new tire for over $120 with installation. That was well out of my price range, so I said no thank you, and they charged me $36 just for looking at the car. I took it to a local tire shop and they patched the hole (THERE WAS A NAIL IN MY TIRE) for $5 after Shafer's lied to me. Soon after that I found that my heat wasn't working quite right. It wasn't as powerful as it had been, but I didn't pay it any mind. Recently I had my uncle put freon in my car for my AC and he found that a fuse had been moved to the wrong place, affecting the heat and air conditioning. No one touches the fuses under the hood of my car. No one has been under the hood of my car since the last time that I took it to Shafer's, so that means that they must have moved it. Today I received an email from Shafer's offering a "Free AC System Check"...in order to charge me so that they can "fix" the problem they caused. Shafer's is being dishonest and running a shady business. I'm really disappointed because this has always been such an honest place. The guys always seem so nice and friendly, especially Mike, but after all this I can't trust them anymore.

My car was broken and I needed to leave town for over a month the next day. I found my way to Schafer's through luck and talked to Mike. He was so nice to me and told me he could help me out with storage as well. There was some confusion when someone else from the shop called and had misdiagnosed some things with my car, but Mike called me when he learned of the confusion and cleared everything up. I picked my car up today and it is running well. Mike really helped me out and I will be a loyal customer of his. I would recommend trying to work with Mike on your car if possible.

These guys are excellent. I have gone here for five years and have always had a good experience. They are honest, efficient, and fairly priced. It's the first time in my life I have been able to say I trust auto mechanics.

My husband and I have two cars with over 100k miles. So one of us always seems to be needing a repair. Although we are in walking distance of a large chain repair garage where we had nightmarish experiences, we always drive the few extra miles to Schafer's. Often we will leave the car the night before or super early in the morning. Employees are very polite and seem to know their stuff. Only once out of dozens of repairs have I had to go back because there was a small issue. They also installed and expensive part that I had shopped around for online very reasonably. The upstairs waiting area though not exactly pretty has free wifi and a tv. Currently the Oregon Diner has $10 off an oil change on their little paper place mats. Their coffee could use an upgrade, but I won't deduct stars since you're really not there for it!

Took my car here a few days ago after a referral from another auto shop. They saved me almost $600 because they're honest, and they've got a welder in house. Furthermore, I was just planning on having them look at it, as it was late in the day and they closed in two hours. After putting my car on the lift, they said it'd be an easy fix and they could finish it in a hour before close. Awesome. Unlike most places they all get paid hourly, not commission or per job, so there's no incentive to rush to get more jobs finished. Definitely worth coming here. Only down side for me is they're a little out of the way - I can't just walk here. Oh well, it's worth it.

I called them ahead of time to ask about replacing a tire that had ripped on my way to work. When I got there (mid day) after work, they "only" had an 80,000 mile Cooperstown tire to fit my standard size Ford Focus car---$126 installed. I do not need that quality tire (42,000 miles in 6 years) and argued this point, asking for a more appropriate tire. I know my car and I know my driving habits. They claimed it would be "at least 3-4 hours" to get another tire in stock. Bulls***. I did not have time to argue, so I sucked it up and paid the price. Then waited for 20 min, watched someone else drive in to get a fancy set of rims, and they were waited on first. Schafer's staff was on the 3rd tire on that car before lowering the jack on my single tire. Worst of all- when I was checking pressure on my tires a few weeks later, they didn't even give me the tire they charged me for. I have a tire I have never heard of, and do not know anything about the quality. For this being a "locally" run operation, it's not South Philly at all. Do NOT go here- they will rip you off and waste your time- especially if you are a woman.

This is a really good shop! Our car was sounding really noisy and we thought that we would need a new muffler. I called Schafer's to see if they could offer me a quote for my car. They asked me to come in so they could take a look. After inspection, they said that I would not need a new muffler, but a piece just needed to be replaced underneath my car. They even asked me to go out to the garage so they could show it to me. Overall synopsis: Went in at 9:30AM. Got an inspection, a new part welded to my car, along with installing some other minor holding brackets. Out by 11:30 ~ good as new. Now, that is service! I feel that they saved me a lot of money, too. I did not have to get a new muffler. Oh, and the staff is really nice, and helpful. I would definately recommend this place. The waiting area is clean, too. As a woman, sometimes I feel a little apprehensive when I approach a new garage. I feel so happy to have found a good place that I feel that I can trust.
