This is a really good shop! Our car was sounding really noisy and we thought that we would need a new muffler. I called Schafer's to see if they could offer me a quote for my car. They asked me to come in so they could take a look. After inspection, they said that I would not need a new muffler, but a piece just needed to be replaced underneath my car. They even asked me to go out to the garage so they could show it to me.
Overall synopsis: Went in at 9:30AM. Got an inspection, a new part welded to my car, along with installing some other minor holding brackets. Out by 11:30 ~ good as new. Now, that is service! I feel that they saved me a lot of money, too. I did not have to get a new muffler. Oh, and the staff is really nice, and helpful. I would definately recommend this place. The waiting area is clean, too.
As a woman, sometimes I feel a little apprehensive when I approach a new garage. I feel so happy to have found a good place that I feel that I can trust.

They are a consciencious group and seem trustworthy regarding information and recommendations about repair needs with fair pricing and realistic timetables for service.
The story did not end here: before leaving Philly to return to CT, I noticed that the new battery they put in wasn't secure and the bracket had fallen off. The car was driveable but I called Mike at Schafer's and explained the dificulty in getting my daughter's car back in there on her work schedule. Mike offered several options including picking the car up at her workplace, repairing the problem, and returning the car. Impressive!
These guys are good and the certainly stand behind their work. They easily took a 3 star situation and made it a 5 star winner by exceeding my expectations. Thank you, Schafer's!!

Someone stole my catalytic converter. My regular mechanic's price to fix it was too high so they recommended Schafer's. The were courteous, friendly and fixed the problem fast. It ended up saving me quite a bit of money and the car actually sounds better than before the converter was stolen.
I recommend getting there when they open as they serve people on first come first served basis and it sounds like they get pretty busy as the day goes on.

Brought my car to Schafer's after it wouldn't start. I left it with them and was more than a little wary when they didn't quote me a price to diagnose my 10 year old car. Happily they were able to fix the problem (which turned out to be minor) for a low price. My initial concern was unfounded, and I'm totally happy with the repair and service.
My only problem was that they took apart my rear bench seat to get at something and didn't put it back together. I had to go back and get one of the techs to come and reassemble it. (I tried it myself and couldn't get it to latch.) Not a major foul-up, but something that should have been taken care of before I picked it up.
All in all, Schafer's is a gem of a garage. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the prices reasonable and the work was thorough and well done. They get serious bonus points for fixing my car quickly when I pushed it down the street and walked in. I'll definitely return there when I need service next. (Though I hope that's not too soon!)

Can't say enough about Schafer's!! They are reasonably priced, and tell you like it is. No extreme mark up on the parts like some garages, you'll just be paying for labor. Have taken in my own parts and had them used on my car when making repairs. They tell you they can't guarantee your part, but if it saves you money, and you know the part is reliable, this is your place!!! All the mechanics are nice, and Bill at the front desk is a doll!!
They are first come, first serve (no appointments). But if you call to see if they can fit you in, Bill will do his best to hold you a spot in line.
I have used Schafer's several times for a variety of routine car issues over the years. I have always found Bill to be fair, friendly, helpful, and honest. Not the place to go if you're allergic to cigarette smoke though!

I don’t think I’d even give this place one star. My power steering went on my car and being new to the city someone recommend this place. What a nightmare. After telling me I needed all this other work done and “fixing” my power steering I left with a huge bill and a “fixed car”. A DAY later my power steering went out, A DAY LATER!!! I called back, the only plus I would give this place is the guy on the phone was nice, he told me to bring it back in and they’d take a look. Once again they “fixed” my power steering and once again my power steering went out. I took it back to them FIVE times and every time a day or less later it would break, one time my power steering stop working hours after picking it up from them. I finally went somewhere else and had it fixed and over 2 years later I still have power steering that works. I like to flip them off every time I drive by.
